Ingredients

All purpose flour (Maida) - 400 g
Yogurt - 120 g
Refined oil - 1.5 tbsp
Sugar - 1.5 tsp
Baking soda - 1 tsp
Salt - as per taste

Naan on Tawa

Naan is a very popular, healthy and delicious main course dish. Naan has different variations & many people prefer to eat naan on over rice.

Dough Preparation

- Mix baking soda with flour
- Add the sugar.
- Add 3/4 tsp salt.
- Mix the ingredients.
- Add 3/4 tbsp oil to the mixture.
- Again the ingredients.
- Add the yogurt & mix together.
- Add little lukewarm water & knead to make a smooth & firm dough.
[Do not add all water at a time, add little then knead. Again add water & knead]
- Add some oil & knead the dough for some more time.
- Cover the dough & keep aside for 2-3 hours

Dough ball making

- Make tennis ball size dough balls
- Pull the surface of the dough balls towards the center with fingers.
- Roll the chunks under palms to make a smooth ball. Then press flat with plams
- Dust the surface of the balls.

Naan Baking

- Heat a plain aluminium / iron tawa on low-medium flame.
[Do not use non-stick tawa]
- Roll flat one dough ball.
- Brush top side of the rolled flour dough with water.
[Do not wait further after brushing with water, immediately put it on hot tawa]
- Put the wet side of the rolled dough on the tawa. So, it sticks to tawa.
- Once the naan inflates [indicates bottom side is baked], turn the tawa upside down and hold over the flame to bake the other side of the naan.
- Turn the flame to high.
- Bake the other side like this.
- When the naan is baked on both side, take the naan out of tawa.
- Turn the flame back to low-medium.
- Repeat this baking process for other dough balls.

The following special accessories is needed for the preparation:
- Handled alumium/iron tawa (preferred)
OR
- Plain aluminium tawa & a iron tong
